Passings: Homer W. Weller
Homer W. Weller, 75, founder of Rolling Rock Building Stone Inc., passed away January 31 at Philadelphia’s Graduate Hospital as a result of a battle with an acute form of leukemia diagnosed only three weeks earlier..
Weller started the Boyerstown, Pa.-based building-stone company in 1955, and was consistently an inspiration and driving force for the family business. He set the example and proved eager to seek out and invest in new ideas and technology to promote both growth and efficiency.
Weller’s true passion in life was his desire and ability to work with stone. He took great pride in splitting and shaping stones using the most-basic hand tools for the sheer satisfaction and pride of seeing the finished product.
Until this January, it was common for Weller to work 50 hours or more per week; he never really considered this work, but a labor of love. He had the ultimate satisfaction of taking part in the 50th Anniversary celebration of Rolling Rock Building Stone last October.
Currently all of his children are employed in the family business, as well as his son-in-law Richard, daughter-in-law Kimberly, and his eldest grandson Eric.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Mae; two sons, Gary Weller and wife Kimberly and Arnold Weller and wife Julia; one daughter, Debra Shabrach and husband Richard; and six grandchildren
The spirit he displayed in his work ethic and his love for stone shall continue to live on in all of us who enjoy our industry and take pride in working with natural stone. He can be seen in his true element at his company’s Website.
