New Gallos Factory on Line for Summer
LIMA, Peru – Production capacities will increase for Marmolería Gallos S.A. this year with completion of a new production facility.
The new factory, adjacent to Gallos’ current operations in Lima, is set to begin operations in by August, says Gonzalo Rossello, company director. Production will begin at 30 containers per month, but will eventually reach the 50- to 60-container level of the current factory.
The expansion for the 140-year-old firm comes as a result of the explosive growth in stone demand, Rossello says. Marble is one of the main products Gallos is exporting from its 12 quarries, although he also notes the availability of high-quality travertine the company finds at levels above 13,100 ft./4000m in the Andes.
Rossello also says the main market is North America, although the company also exports to Europe, Korea and other areas of Latin America. There’s also increasing business with European clients in England, Sweden, France and Spain, and the company is also exporting to Australia and New Zealand.
“The stone business is very promising in the next year for us,” Rossello says. “More people are discovering the quality of stone we provide.”
