Passings: Craig W. Hamilton
Craig W. Hamilton, 55, director of research and development at MAPEI Corp., died unexpectedly from a heart attack on September 16, 2005.
Hamilton worked in the ceramic tile and stone industry for more than 20 years, and joined MAPEI in 1989. He was the director of R&D for MAPEI Americas at the time of his death.
Hamilton served as the current president of the Materials & Methods Standards Association (MMSA). He also had a strong interest in the International Organization for Standards (ISO), acting as Convener of the ISO/TC 189 Working Group 3. In this role, Hamilton worked on the introduction of new, clearer standards for tile and stone adhesives and grouts.
Rick Di Tempora, president of MAPEI Americas, said that, “Craig had the ability to create a serene atmosphere with his presence, whether it was in a boardroom, at a trade show, or with friends and family. He was really one of a kind. His passing leaves us gravely saddened.”
Dr. Giorgio Squinzi, MAPEI Group CEO, worked with Hamilton on various standards committees. “Craig was widely respected at our meetings for his knowledge and expertise regarding the materials and methods for tile and stone installation,: Dr. Squinzi said. “He was actively involved with our research and development at MAPEI, and he will be profoundly missed by his colleagues within the company.”
Hamilton is survived by his wife, Nancy; mother, Virginia; sons, Nicholas and Michael; stepson and stepdaughter, Brian & Elyse Gruskin.
A memorial service was held in September.
